Enrollment and Tour Information

Parent Information Session and Tour

The first step toward enrolling your student in Madrona K8 is to attend a parent information session which includes a tour. You will receive important information about our school during the tour and have opportunities to ask questions. After the tour, you will be given a form to complete to enter your child in the lottery. A lottery system is used for enrollment as interest in the program exceeds available space. The entry pool guidelines are approved by the Edmonds School Board.

You only need to tour one time. Your lottery application will remain in the lottery pool until the child ages out, after 8th grade.
Madrona K-8 Entry Pool Guidelines

There is no sign up to attend a tour. Please make arrangements for child care. The tours are for an adult audience as we will tour learning environments throughout the school and wish to respect teaching and minimize distractions to learning. The information session and tour last one hour.

To be eligible for our kindergarten drawing for the upcoming school year, you must tour before March.

Madrona K-8 is a public school within the Edmonds School District serving students from Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway. Our students benefit from a multi-age instructional setting with grade level groupings for primary centers consisting of 1st - 3rd graders in a center with two teachers and 4th - 6th graders intermediate classes with two teachers. Middle school students (7th and 8th) are also mixed grade classes aside from math courses which are based on testing and teacher recommendation. A lottery system is utilized as interest in the multi-age program exceeds enrollment capacities.

The kindergarten lottery is held in early February each year. Lottery enrollment at all other grade levels is dependent on available space and therefore unpredictable. We only draw from the lotteries when space is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Madrona Lottery Process

When will you be doing the lottery?

The Kindergarten lottery takes place in mid February. The last tour before our February 2024 drawing will be February 8th.

Lottery enrollment for all other grade levels is dependent on available space and therefore unpredictable. We only draw from the lotteries when space is available. Once the sibling lottery pool is exhausted for a grade level, then we would draw from the general lottery pool.

How will I know if my child was drawn in the lottery?

For kindergarten, calls will go out immediately after the drawing in February. If you do not receive a phone call from our office by early March, unfortunately, your child was not drawn for kindergarten. For all other grade levels, a drawing will be done when a spot becomes available. The family will be notified by phone.

Should I call the school office?

No need to call our school office, we will contact you by phone if your child was drawn in the Lottery.

I need to know if my child got in so I can register my child for our neighborhood school.

Register your child for your neighborhood school.  Do not wait to hear from us.  It is easy to withdraw your child if you do happen to get “the call”.

Does Madrona have a 'Kick off to Kindergarten' event like neighborhood schools?
No,  Madrona does not have a "Kick off to Kindergarten" event.  We will have an orientation with the Kindergarten teachers sometime in April.

Do both parents/ legal guardians need to attend the tour?
No, only one parent or legal guardian of the child needs to attend the tour.

Do I need to tour each year?
No, you only need to tour one time. Your lottery application will remain in the lottery pool until the child ages out, after 8th grade.
